CULTURAL PRODUCTION AND AN ARTIST IN ‘ERASURE’ BY PERCIVAL EVERETT

Summary

The article deals with Percival Everett’s ‘Erasure’ (2001) in the context of cultural production of late capitalism. Today’s aesthetic production has become integrated into commodity production. Therefore, economic necessities also defi ne the nature of literary texts. The transformation of the sphere of culture according to the logic of late capital system, as well as the crisis of ideology contributed to the emergence of aesthetic populism and the dissolving of frontier between high culture and commercial culture. Percival Everett’s novel «Erasure» is a vivid example of how culture industry works. The author shows the process of production and consumption of mass literature.
