Theater is one of the most popular types of art. The article highlights the main concepts of the Ukrainian stage phenomenon, the research of which was started by artists and social and cultural figures who acted as spiritual luminaries. In the thorough studies of I. Franko, the theoretical and critical works of M. Voronoi and the essayist L. Starytska-Chernyakhivska emphasizes there are diachronic and synchronic dimensions of the progress of the national theater, the factors of development, reasons for stagnation and prospects. Therefore, the work reveales the specificity of texts of various genres and content, which carefully analyzes with the selection of semantic dominants that express the idiostyle of the authors. It proves that all works are united primarily by the relevance of the problem, because a spectacular action can educate, teach, encourage or, on the contrary, cause degradation, turning individuals into a faceless limited mass. The theater is a representative of a nation capable of developing, combining the original and the borrowed, transforming it into its own format, so that Ukraine and Ukrainians remain equal subjects of Europe and the world.
