Highlighting the peculiarities of the development and formation of Ukrainian theatre is an extremely complex phenomenon that requires thorough theoretical and critical preparation. When speaking about the theatre studies of L. Starytska- Cherniakhivska and the writer's profound familiarity with the specifics of theatrical life of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it should be noted that the artist devoted exceptionally great attention to theatre scholarship. This has been emphasized by M. Zhulynskyi, L. Demianivska, L. Protsiuk, V. Shvets, I. Chernova, and others.
It has been proven that the theatre studies of L. Starytska-Cherniakhivska remain relevant, as they "...represent the progress of the national spirit through the comprehension of national history" [1, p. 139]. The paper underscores the significance of the writer's theatre research in view of the tasks of Ukrainian scholarship on national dramaturgy and theatre.
In her theatre studies, as in her literary works, the writer sought to emphasize and remind the Ukrainian people of their historical memory and their identity.
